21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

I chose to read the book, The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users.

  1. I believe that the authors of this book emphasize the importance and effect that social media can have on your brand/company. They give tips on how to create powerful social media pages on all platforms. Their put much focus on explaining how social media is a tool that can benefit entrepreneurs immensely if used right. The also explain that social media can just businesses if not used correctly. Social media is an important if not one of the main areas that can build or destroy a brand/company.
  2. In ENT 3003 we practice being entrepreneurs by thinking creatively and identifying innovative solutions. Throughout this class we have done assignments that has helped students understand who our customers are and how we can shape our product to our target market. This book sends a similar message in that it teaches readers how to market themselves and/or company on social media. What companies post or share on social media isn’t done at random, it is done intentionally because they have done their market research and know who their customers are.
  3. If I had to design an exercise for the entire class based on what Ive learned in this book it would be to: chose a local business in Gainesville and create a fake social media schedule for them on all social media outlets. They would have to create a Monday-Sunday schedule that details what type of content they will post and/or share. This would allow students to visualize and really think about what type of content is important for different types of market segments.
  4. I think one of the most important lessons that I learned about this book is that you don’t have to create your own content( you should at least a little), but sharing a lot of content that isn’t yours won’t hurt your following. This book taught me that strong content is what viewers what, and it doesn’t matter if its yours or someone sees as long as its from your feed.

  1. Hey Nathalie!

I chose to comment on your post because we selected the same reading so I wanted see what your comments on it were. We interpreted the point of the reading the same: the importance social media has on a business. I really liked your exercise although it was pretty different from mine, I think your exercise emphasized the planning that goes in to social media while mine highlighted how the tips presented in the book could be visibly helpful to a social media account.
